← Open Slate Forge

Your documents, on this browser

Slate Forge is a public-beta word processor. Write, format, add images and tables, and export copies without an application account.

Keep a separate backup. Saving on this device does not upload or sync your documents. Clearing browser data, private browsing, device loss or storage eviction can remove them.

Start writing

  1. Write in the document and give it a title. Use File → New document for a template.
  2. Check the save status near the title. File → Save on this device (Ctrl/⌘ + S) waits for saving to finish.
  3. Use File → Open a file to import supported text, HTML, DOCX or ODT files. Review imported formatting before relying on it.

Save an independent copy

Moving from another address or device

Browser documents belong to the address and browser profile where you created them. Before moving from the original Slate Forge Site to GitHub Pages, export a complete workspace backup there, save the file, then import it at the new address. Compare the restored documents and PDF/OCR content before removing the original copy.

Offline and installed use

Open the app online first. Tools → App status reports offline availability. Use Tools → Offline preparation to download PDF/OCR components before disconnecting. Browsers can still remove cached files. Installation, file sharing and operating-system file handling depend on the browser.

What to expect in the beta

Continuous editing is the default. Paged editing, complex layouts, review tools, PDF tools and OCR need extra care: inspect exported results and keep originals. Exact Word/ODT layout, arbitrary image wrapping, existing PDF text editing and XFA are not supported. OCR text needs correction. Some exports require decisions on pending structural changes first.

For printing, use File → Print / Save as PDF, inspect the page preview and its warnings, then choose 100% print scale and disable browser-added headers and footers.
